The Centre for Chinese Contemporary Art (CFCCA) is leading the UK in exploring a changing international dynamic. This is the Chinese Century and Chinese contemporary art and visual culture is a vibrant force, fast gaining momentum. CFCCA believes that creative excellence in the UK can be invigorated by engaging with exceptional Chinese artists and through their work audiences can meaningfully engage with a world of shifting centres.

CFCCA has a proud 30-year history of international exhibitions featuring exceptional artists that go on to achieve international acclaim. CFCCA’s contacts and reputation in China, Hong Kong and Taiwan is unparalleled.  The RIBA award winning venue holds two gallery spaces along with its residency studio and Jasmine Suite downstairs.

The Breathe Residency programme offers artists and curators of Chinese descent an ideal environment to reflect on their practice, research and make new work under the support and guidance of the CFCCA team within an international setting. Residencies usually last up to 3 months. The Whisper Residency is open to artists and curators of any background, but they must be UK based and interested in exploring ideas around contemporary Chinese culture. It is the perfect residency opportunity for recent graduates or emerging curators who wish to have a taster experience as it is only 3-4 weeks long.

The artist is not required to make a finished work during this period but a works in progress which demonstrates the residency project as a whole is required as a legacy to go towards the CFCCA’s new Chinese Contemporary Art Collection with the University of Salford. As APT members you will be required to make two editions/ works in progress for this residency – one for CFCCA’s collection and one for the APT collection.  The Open Studio at the close of the residency will be an opportunity for the artist to engage with the public and discuss their residency.

Application deadlines will be announced in 2018
